...To my reading list for the summer.
In light of my rather slow progress in reading Don Quijote, I've decided to make a substitution for Les Miserables. In its place I will be reading 2666 by Roberto Bolaño, in Spanish. I think this will still be a challenge, yet easier than Les Miserables. Don Quijote is apparently going to take all summer to read. No joke. It's just very slow going, written in the old Spanish. Very difficult to read. I'm actually enjoying it, but I can't take much more than a chapter at a time. Sometimes I take several days off.
However, I am bound and determined to get this classic work of literature read. I just need to.
We'll see how it goes.

That's quite impressive and "quite" is an understatement.
I would be surprised if we later hear that you're reading The Republic in the original Greek.
I'm not sure why you "need to get this classic work of literature read..." but I admire you for it.
If you're interested in something a bit more modern, my favorite novel, if I have a true "favorite," is Herzog by Saul Bellow, who's also one of my three or four favorite authors.
All of that said, I spend most of my reading time with mysteries (if I haven't mentioned it), though I have several classics on my Kindle which I read sporadically.
